Experienced Litigation Associate

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for a litigator with at least three years of experience to manage a portfolio of cases and contribute to strategic decisionmaking. We anticipate that you will spend about one-third of your time on our ghost network practice, about one-third on False Claims Act qui tam and other whistleblower cases, and the balance on other public impact litigation.

We want someone who is comfortable working independently to move their cases forward. At the same time, we often work with co-counsel – such as Walden Macht on our ghost network cases – and encourage group discussion and brainstorming.

The most important characteristics we look for are (a) intellectual curiosity; (b) proven initiative and follow-through; (c) kindness; and (d) resourcefulness and – when necessary – scrapiness. Every person here is smart; no one person is as smart as any two. The challenge – and the key to our success – is working as a team. A successful associate here will see a legal analyst as a colleague rather than a subordinate and will also feel comfortable saying to a senior partner, “That idea won’t work; but if we thought about it this way it could work.”

Many of our clients are consumers who have struggled to find healthcare or whistleblowers facing potential retaliation. Many have had little or no previous involvement with the legal process. The ability to thoughtfully communicate with clients in a way that makes them feel comfortable and understood is just as important to our work as the ability to present a compelling and well-researched legal argument.

Qualifications:

  • Three to six years of experience, ideally civil litigation
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Self-starter mentality with a collaborative and positive attitude
  • Clerkship and additional work experience prior to law school are preferred but not required
  • Must be available to start work no later than July 20th

Who We Are

Pollock Cohen LLP is a small litigation firm that prides itself on punching above its weight class. The guiding principle behind all of our work is a desire to have a positive impact in the world.

As you can probably tell, our model and workplace culture are very different from a big-law experience. We only take on matters that we can feel proud of and are not focused on maximizing our billable hours (our annual requirement is 1,500 hours). Associates of all levels are given meaningful responsibility and are encouraged to volunteer for assignments and experiences that align with their professional goals. Everyone is encouraged to ask questions, voice their opinions, and respectfully disagree.

Compensation and Work Life:

  • $125,000–150,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Generous PTO policy 401k plan with 3% employer safe harbor contribution
  • In-office five days per week with occasional remote work opportunities

Interested applicants should send a short cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample to hiring@pollockcohen.com. Writing samples should primarily reflect the applicant’s writing ability and should include a cover page explaining whether AI or another person played a role in drafting or editing the sample and, if so, the extent of that role. If submitting a writing sample that is longer than ten pages, please identify a discrete subsection of the sample in your cover letter that you feel best highlights your abilities. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, with priority given to candidates who apply by Friday, May 8th.
